NC #713 Mimeo Photos, Security Bits

In this action-packed episode we really only have two topics. I’ll tell you how I’m in love with the Mimeo Photos extension for Apple Photos to make calendars. Then Bart is here for an out-of-band Security Bits so we don’t have to wait three weeks for an installment.

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Saturday, January 5, 2019, and this is show number 713. I’m recording a day early because Steve and I are off to CES on Sunday. I’m sorry for disappointing the live audience this way but it couldn’t be helped. You guys DO know that you can still get together in the live Discord chat at podfeet.com/chat, right? It’s not like you listen to me anyway, so why not go in there and yack about football and what you’re making for dinner and read up on what crazy new thing TJ is testing? I’d have to depend on Kevin and Sandy to keep the kids in line of course but I’m sure they’re up for the challenge.

This week I have only one article that I wrote myself but Bart came in for a special out-of-band Security Bits segment. We were worried that since he wasn’t on Chit Chat Across the Pond this week, we’d be going 3 weeks without a segment and there’d be way too much to cover.

Don’t tune out when you hear Bart say, “Stay Patched and Stay Secure” because he sent me an update to read after our recording where he was able to clarify some of what he said.

Chit Chat Across the Pond

Chit Chat Across the Pond was a total blast this week. I asked Darren Carr, host of the Mac Quadcast onto the show. You may remember that he had me on his show a few weeks ago. He has a standard format of questions he asks his guests, so I wanted to flip the tables on him and use his format to interview him. In addition to being a blogger and an audio podcaster, Darren is dabbling in YouTube production and video editing as well. Oh, and he just happens to be a paraplegic, paralyzed from the neck down.

We accidentally skipped over it but Darren went to The London School of Economics and graduated in 1998 with a BSc in Government AFTER he was paralyzed. Oddly Darren doesn’t make other people feel like underachievers but I’m not sure why! He’s great fun with a rather sick sense of humor so I think you’ll really enjoying hearing him talk about all things Apple with a little bit of accessibility thrown in.

You can find the interview with Darren under Chit Chat Across the Pond or Chit Chat Across the Pond Lite in your podcatcher of choice, or of course you can always listen to episode 577 right at www.podfeet.com/….

I’m in Love with Mimeo Photos for Apple Photos Projects

Amazon

I mentioned a little bit ago that I was working on an enhancement to the Amazon Affiliate Links for people outside of the US. For each country I have to create a completely new login and get paid separately by each account so it’s a pretty big hassle to add a country. For that reason I’ve done Canada, the UK and Germany.

The enhancement is that now if you click on any Amazon Affiliate Link I post in an article, you should be redirected to your own store (if you’re from one of those countries). Bart checked it from Ireland where the UK store is his location and it worked as well.

The reason I had trouble setting this up was pretty interesting. When I create one of those links I get to choose between text, image, or text + image. I had to write to Amazon to figure out why my links weren’t working and it was because only text and image links work, not text + image links.

So from now on if I feel compelled to include an image, I’ll use a regular image and add the text link manually to it. This should mean that you won’t have to remember to go to podfeet.com/amazon and then find your country and all the blah blah blah. Now just hit any Amazon link of interest and you’ll be able to see the product I’m talking about if it’s available in your store.

Here’s an Amazon Affiliate link to the new speakers I bought Steve for Christmas – the Polk T50 150s – test it out! It’s an easy way to find the products I talk about and a small percentage of what you spend may go to help the show.

    Hi Allison,
Just to confirm the Amazon affiliate link works fine in Germany, with automatic transfer to amazon.de. Happy New Year!
