The USB Implementers Forum, or USB-IF, is a non-profit corporation founded by the group of companies that developed the Universal Serial Bus specification. USB-IF doesn’t make any products, and they don’t speak for any of the hardware vendors, but rather they facilitate the development of USB peripherals and promote the benefits of the products that have passed compliance testing. In this interview, Allison talks to USB-IF Chairman Brad Saunders, and Rahman Ismail, the USB-IF Chief Technology Officer.
The conversation covers exactly what USB4 is (and what it’s not), how USB4 evolved from USB3, including Super Speeds of 5, 10, and 20 Gb/sec data transfer and video. We learn about the labeling to look for with USB4, we learn about backward compatibility, and what kind of cables you need. We also learn about how most of this will just work. We talk about what Thunderbolt 4 is and how it relates to USB4. We even got to see a fantastic demo of the power and capability of USB4. Learn more at https://usb.org/
