Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, December 19, 2021, and this is show number 867. I want to thank the NosillaCastaways for coming through on listener reviews. We’ve got a full-length show lined up for this week and Christmas weekend, and a good start on New Year’s weekend.
Before we get started I want to make sure everyone knows there will be NO LIVE SHOW on the 26th of December, because the next NosillaCast will actually come out on the 23rd (in theory). Maybe it will give you something fun to listen to as you do your holiday driving, over the hills to grandmother’s house and all that!
Quick follow-up item – remember last week I told you about the inexpensive HomeKit-compatible smart plugs from Meross? The end of my story was that the only thing I found wrong with them was that we couldn’t find anything left in the house to automate. Well, guess what? We not only found two more things to automate but had to buy two more Meross smart plugs!

Support the Show
With this penultimate 2021 NosillaCast, I’d like to take a quick pause to celebrate four more of our long-term patrons. Alex Friedman, Norbert Frassa, Frank Petrie, and Ian Lessing have all been supporting the show since 2018. These fine folks have chosen to be patrons of the show through Patreon by picking a dollar amount that shows their appreciation level for the work we do here. Inside your own heads, I’d like you to thank them for helping bring this show to you. If you’d like to be fine folk like Alex, Norbert, Frank, and Ian, head over to podfeet.com/patreon and pledge what you feel is right for you.
Barry on Chamberlain’s MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener (no blog post)
Barry Fulk joins me to talk about his Chamberlain MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener. He talks through the problem to be solved, his struggles getting it to work with HomeKit, and how his awesome wife Bobbi Ann had to smack him over the head to read the manual. H installed the Chamberlain HomeKit Hub to get it to work. Since I have the same smart garage door opener, we were able to swap notes on what we like and don’t like about it and discuss how much value it really adds compared to other Home Automation devices we have deployed. We also talk about what kind of automations we’d like to set up, including geofencing and how they could work.
That’s going to wind this up for this week. Did you know you can email me at [email protected] any time you like? If you have a question or a suggestion just send it on over. I’ve left Facebook (at least for now) so Twitter is a good place to follow me online at @podfeet. Better yet, join our Slack community at podfeet.com/slack where you can talk to me and all of the other lovely NosillaCastaways. Remember, everything good starts with podfeet.com/. You can support the show at podfeet.com/patreon or with a one-time donation at podfeet.com/paypal. And if you want to join in the fun of the live show, head on over to podfeet.com/live on Sunday nights at 5pm Pacific Time and join the friendly and enthusiastic NosillaCastaways. Thanks for listening, and stay subscribed.
I had issue with garage door not working or as sensitive. My trouble shooting pointed my issue to changing the light in the opener to LED lights that were installed in the opener. I replaced with LED made for garage door openers that don’t interfere with the signal. (if light was on opener would not work but after the light went off remote would work.
