Update on Wordle with Regular Expressions

I wanted to do a really quick update on my article about using Regular Expressions to help stimulate your brain when playing Wordle. Yes, I got the expected “you’re cheating!” messages, but I also liked Bart’s explanation. He said, “It’s not cheating, it’s a different game!”

Anyway, when I talked about Claus’s solution with his python script, I mentioned that he told me there was a common word list in the GitHub repository and we could use that for our Regular Expression to search instead of all English words. It turns out that this list is not useful, because it is the list of words that are too common for the developer to use in the game. If he used these words, we’d guess too easily.

Support the Show

Are you ever listening to the NosillaCast or Chit Chat Across the Pond Lite or Programming By Stealth and thinking, “Wow, I sure get a lot out of this content. I really want to help contribute to the show to demonstrate the value I get”, but somehow you forget to do it later when you’re back in front of your computer? I know, it happens to the best of us. In fact, it happened to good friend of the show Ed Tobias. He thought he was a patron but it turned out he wasn’t. Luckily, he realized this oversight, and went to podfeet.com/patreon and signed up to pledge an amount he felt was appropriate for the value he gets out of the show. If you’ve had this kind of oversight yourself, remember, it’s never too late. Thanks, Ed for your support of the Podfeet Podcasts.
