We’ve got a big show for you this week so let’s jump right in with another interview by Bodie Grimm, the awesome host of the Kilowatt Podcast, a show all about electric vehicles and alternative energy. The interviews he got us from CES have nothing to do with EVs, they’re just things he thought would be fun for the NosillaCastaways.

Tonies – CES Interview by Bodie Grimm (no blog post)

This is a cool tech device for kids 3 and up. Tonies provides screen-free entertainment for kids. There are two parts to this device. The main device is a softbox, with a speaker in it. The box has 2 cat ears at the top for volume control. Also at the top of the box is a square that’s lit up. The box is equipped with WiFi that’s set up through a smartphone app.

The second part is a figurine (Tonies) the child puts in the lit-up square on top of the box and that enables the box to play a story or songs for the child. The Tonies can be branded. Some of the examples I saw were Disney, Paw Patrol, James and the Giant Peach, and Peppa Pig. There are also blank Tonies that a parent or grandparent can record a message to the child, using the smartphone app, and when the child puts the blank Tonies on the box it’ll play the message and the message can be changed every day. It’s a great device for independent play.

Thanks so much for this, Bodie. What an inventive toy. I just love the idea of being able to send an audio message to my grandkids every day. My granddaughter is obsessed with Cocomelon so she would love this. I have a feeling the feature she would love the most would be slapping the side to change what it was playing.

Are you fatigued by too many subscriptions but you’d still really like to support the work we do here at the Podfeet Podcasts? Did you know you can go to podfeet.com/paypal and just choose an amount that shows the value you get out of the shows? I don’t set a goal of making money off the shows but it does cost money for servers and software and hardware so every little bit you can contribute will make you a real hero in my book.
