Allison discusses TIER IV’s efforts and successes in developing autonomous driving (AD) software for electric vehicles. With a strong focus on safety, innovation, and open-source software, TIER IV aims to empower people and revolutionize the way people live and interact with transportation. Based in Japan, TIER IV has successfully achieved Level 4 AD services in select regions in Japan and is working to expand that reach to 50 regions by 2025 and 100 regions by 2027. In parallel, TIER IV is working to expand its AD services to the U.S. To help promote AD across the industry, TIER IV has contributed its AD software and algorithms to the Autoware Foundation, the world’s largest open-source AD project. Allison also shows the Robobus, one of the vehicles TIER IV is integrating its self-driving software and hardware into. Developed by PIX Moving, the Robobus vehicle is an autonomous driving electric shuttle that can seat up to six people comfortably. It features reconfigurable seating, large windows for excellent viewing, and large sliding doors for easy entry and exit. The interview setting is the CES show floor in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
