This is an episode packed with Tiny Tips and Dumb questions and listener reviews. Dr. Maryanne Garry is back in Chit Chat Across the Pond, and Steve posted a video of her recent talk, “The End of Facts” at Claremont Graduate University. I was on The Phileas Club with Patrick Beja at frenchspin.com/…. Sandy brings us a Tiny Tip on how to add a workout to Apple Health via iPhone. Terry Vogelaar reviews Duolingo for learning a new language like Esperanto. I’ve got a Tiny Tip on Reader view in Safari on iOS and macOS to make your web reading more pleasant and readable. I created a page on all my podcasting gear. . Steve Sheridan brings us a Tiny Tip on how to get apps that are cranky about Face ID to straighten up and fly right. I’ve got a redux of my post about how you should ask me to change things about the podcast and website, and how I might just do some of them. In Dumb Question Corner, Rally Barnard asks some great questions about the new HEIF/HEVC formats on iOS 11 and High Sierra.
Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Mac Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, November 19, 2017, and this is show number 654.
Chit Chat Across the Pond
Dr. Maryanne Garry is back again on Chit Chat Across the Pond. If you haven’t heard of her before, run away now. She has single handedly destroyed everything we think we know about memory by telling us about her scientific research at the University of Waikato in New Zealand into implanting false memories. In what she claims is her fourth time on Chit Chat (I thought it was third but my memory you know…) we did essentially a Q and A session. It’s marvelous, you’ll learn a lot, you might laugh a little and you’ll find yourself asking more questions.
Video of Dr. Garry’s talk “The End of Facts” at Claremont Graduate University. Thanks to Steve for capturing this.
Phileas Club
This week I had the great honor of being a member of a panel on Patrick Beja’s The Phileas Club. The episode was entitled “Life as a Woman”. The other panelists were Wendi Dunford, a therapist who grew up in Utah and currently lives in Sweden, Shae Renee, an African American television producer living in the US south, and Marleen Vente, an artist from the Netherlands.
Patrick did a phenomenal job (as he always does) of drawing us out and helping us tell our collective stories. You know I like to talk, but these women were so interesting and compelling in their story telling that I found myself simply listening for most of the show. The conversation made me realize that women have a shared secret … that we’ve never shared with each other.
I know it’s way off the tech topic but I really feel like we’re bringing about positive change just to realize how prevalent these problems are. The reaction from the male audiences of both Chit Chat Across the Pond and the Phileas Club have been overwhelmingly positive. I hope you’ll give it a listen, over at frenchspin.com/…

I recently created a new page on podfeet.com that I’ve never told you about. It’s a page showing all of the podcasting gear I use to create the podcast. I think it’s pretty cool. I have my microphone, boom arm, headphones, pop filter, webcam, Thunderbolt dock, audio interface and USB hub on there already! I’m hoping to do a section on all the apps eventually too.
Of course the links used are Amazon affiliate links. By buying through the links I may receive a commission for the sale and of course this has no effect on the price for you.
I haven’t figured out a clean way to link to these unique types of pages from the home page, so you’re going to have to either click on the link in the shownotes, or remember to search for “My Podcasting Gear” over on podfeet.com. If you have ideas on how I can reveal these types of links without cluttering up our clean home page, I’m all ears!
