On April 10th I had the great pleasure of addressing the Southern California Mac Owners/Users Group (affectionately referred to as SMOG). The subject was Skype vs. iChat on the Mac. You can view and download the slides from slideshare.net/nosillacast.
Nice talk Allison, that was fun. The user group makeup looks just like our local group (that I don’t attend); lots of old folks. Back in the Late 80’s-Early 90s our group was all young geeks, now user groups have changed.
Same experience with us Neil. We used to go to user group meetings in the 80’s and really enjoyed them. I remember hauling around our fat mac with a bunch of floppy disks and a handy carrying case. I think much of the younger crowd gets most of their information these days on line rather than face to face at a users group.
Isn’t it greets though that we have all these different ways of lessening and sharing? The SMOG group was so fun – engaged, interested, asked great questions. I wanna be like them when I grow up,
I had fun as well – good group of folks to be around. By the way Al, was your last post from an iPhone or iPad perchance?
durn – I really do need to wear my glasses when I use the iPad!
I think you could have been more patient with your listeners. They appeared to know faster techniques during points of your presentation, you sort of blew them over and moved on to other things. For example: a lady Google’d a price for a refurbished iPad..okay yeah it was irrelevant, but smack that smirk off your face and say thank-you next time. Overall, you had a great presentation but you need to learn people skills. Older people are gentle and warm-hearted, you could have learned from them.
Thanks for writing Melissa, I didn’t realize at all that I was doing that! I’ll keep an eye out in the future to make sure I don’t do a repeate performance.
