We’ll take a look at StepShot Guides to see if it’s a worthy replacement for Clarify after all. Then we have an interview with Monoprice from NAB where we’ll have a surprisingly interesting and funny interview about SlimRun Ethernet and HDMI cables. Bart and I haven’t talked Security Bits in ages, so we have a nice long one for you.
Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, May 6, 2018, and this is show number 678.
I want to start the show by thanking the SMR guys, Chris Ashley and Robb Dunewood for holding down the fort while Steve and I were snorkeling with turtles. Now you guys probably assumed that such seasoned podcasters as they are would be able to pull off a NosillaCast without straining a muscle, but their show is so different from this show that it was a truly extraordinary effort. I think the best way to illustrate this is to play the beginning of this week’s SMR Podcast from this week where they talk a little bit about it. Even before they start talking, their intro alone gives you a little flavor of how funny they are with each other. The show starts with Rod Simmons, who was not on the NosillaCast but sets them up to talk about it.
You can see why I love these guys. Robb wasn’t kidding – if you listen to the rest of their show (and you totally should subscribe), Robb does a bit about FunYuns that’s hysterical.
Chit Chat Across the Pond
We’re finally back to a new episode of Programming By Stealth after a few weeks chatting with different things like GDPR and DNS with Bart Busschots. In this installment, Bart starts explaining the Utilities available in Bootstrap. We’ll learn how easy it is to use the pre-built CSS styles in Bootstrap to color text, add borders, spacing, text alignment and fonts all with semantic phrases that actually make sense! In an odd bit of luck, Bootstrap had been updated and Bart’s code didn’t reflect the new version. In most shows, this would be a problem but the change allowed Bart to walk me through how to figure out what was wrong and how to access the Bootstrap documentation to fix it. The best way to learn something is to break it first, or at least Bart and I feel that way.
You can find this episode in either the Chit Chat Across the Pond feed, or the Programming By Stealth feed in your podcatcher of choice.

Can StepShot Guides Replace Clarify?
Next up we have a really fun, nerdy interview with Monoprice from NAB. Before we jump into it though, you may remember that I’ve stopped buying from Monoprice, at least for a while. I’ve been a fan of their stuff for ages, but when Safari started blocking third-party cookies, I realized that Monoprice was using them to track us on the Internet. I did a post about it called Vote With Your Dollars – Monoprice Also Using Third-Party Tracking with Criteo.
The reason I went to see Monoprice at NAB in the first place was to see if I could get them to stop using Criteo to track us. I understand free services using tracking methods (I may not like it, but I understand) but I really don’t think someone I’m paying my hard-earned dollars to should be tracking me.
Before I interviewed Manny Hernandez, I told him about the Criteo problem and he said he knew the web developers and would talk to them about it and get back to me. I reminded him once since the show but I haven’t heard back from him yet. You know me, I’ll keep nagging them till they either fix the problem, tell me their never going to fix it, or acquire a restraining order.
With that giant caveat out of the way, the interview with Manny is super fun and interesting in the geekiest way ever, so let’s give a listen.

Amazon Affiliate
Do you guys remember a few weeks ago I started yanking the UK listeners’ collective chain about how Germany was way ahead of them in using the Amazon Affiliate Links on podfeet.com? Well, guess what? The UK Amazon store finally paid out! So as Rose would say, “Good onya UK listeners!”
The envelop’s stamp said Bratislava on the front along with Trieda Classe with a return address of Slovakia. The check came on letterhead from Amazon.eu with a return address in Luxembourg. The check was made out by Deutsche Bank. And the check itself was in British Pounds. Clearly the European Union hard at work!
Something else fun happened – for the first time ever, the Canadian Amazon Associates program paid out a check too! My theory is that Canada didn’t want to be next in line for my teasing about being behind other countries.
All this teasing is my way of saying thank you so much to all of you who click on the Amazon Affiliate Links when I talk about products and help send a small percentage along to support the podcasts.
