Allison interviews Auli Co-Founder, Spero Koulouras, about their alternative to eye gaze to control applications and devices. Auli’s Cato device empowers people with motor disabilities by providing familiar customizable control of electronic devices.
Cato is a motion-based wearable device that controls Windows, macOS, and Chromebook computers by emulating mouse and keyboard input. It also operates iOS and Android mobile devices by emulating pointer movement.
Cato uses AI algorithms to recognize movements from your head, hands, or any part of your body to which it is connected. The device is lightweight and portable and attaches to glasses, hair clips, caps, wristbands, or even ears.
Using Edge AI and open-source software, Cato is designed to be financially accessible to all. The company aims to provide individuals access to advanced personal assistive technology without requiring prior authorization from insurance gatekeepers.
Cato is available for trials to assistive technology and speech-language professionals, occupational and physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
